There’s a lot going on here... so we’ll begin with the passage. Hand engraved and hidden on the inside of this bracelet as it reads:
“—Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where—” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat. “—so long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”
“In that direction,” the Cat said, waving its right paw round, “lives a Hatter: and in that direction,” waving the other paw, “lives a March Hare. Visit either you like: they’re both mad.”
“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
The Alice in Wonderland DiMe bracelet is a celebration of Charles Lutwidge Dodson’s aka Lewis Carroll’s children’s classic. The outside is hand engraved with original lithographs from the story (A cheshire cat. A Queen of Hearts. A bottle that says Drink Me. A cookie that says Eat Me.). In the story, Alice enters another world and the passage engraved on the inside is one that we think is a pretty poignant commentary on life. It is a little “crazy” that we fit the passage in its entirety on the inside of this DiMe Bracelet, which is why this piece took close to a year to make.
This is a different kind of storytelling that is unique and worth it.
