#lockyourmom

Each Mother’s Day, since 2015, we give away Baby Heartlocks (engraved with a “!” for the “!!!!” of motherhood) to single moms. People (kids, friends, other moms, anyone!) are invited to nominate a mom and we send her a Lock in time for the holiday.

These Locks are like a medal for the single mom in your life and she deserves it. This gift is especially poignant when children are too small to say “thank you” or “Happy Mother’s Day” themselves, which is coincidentally the most intense time of parenting. We make 1500 of these Locks to give, and once they are gone, they are gone.

One of our most defining initiatives, #lockyourmom has become bigger, better, and more impactful each passing year. This is an office and
team- wide effort—everyone contributes extra time in some way. We are proud to partner with Henry Street Settlement, an organization that opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social services, arts, and health care programs, and Material for the Arts, a nonprofit that provides millions of dollars of supplies and inspiration to New York City’s artistic and educational communities. This “crazy” thing has been covered by People Magazine, The Today Show, Daily Front Row, New York 1, and more.

To date the #lockyourmom project has given away thousands of Locks to single moms around the US.

Thrillingly in 2025 we are launching #lockyourmom in the United Kingdom.

In Marla's words...

“Years ago I was grappling with this idea of wanting to give back to single moms in a meaningful way. Or at least in some way. Because I was one once and there was a bitter sweetness to Mother’s Day itself and to the loneliness of single parenting sometimes. In the midst of this “grappling” I ended up at a fancy ass dinner sitting next to a woman who one could say, is famous. And I was intimidated. Very. I didn’t know what I would talk about for an ENTIRE DINNER with this person. Welp. She was a mother of small children at the time. A single mother. And we ended up talking about the loneliness we felt as single parents. It was in that moment I realized that this lonliness of single parenting happens if you are rich or poor, famous or regular. The parenting part is alone and hard and the same wherever you are in your life. Money could ease some of it but it doesn’t take that feeling away. Especially on Mother’s Day. So this giving away Locks thing…does it change the world? No, but it does make Mother’s feel happy and loved and seen and that is truly the least you can ask from a piece of jewerly. It is my hope to be able to continue expanding the reach of #lockyourmom in both area and significance—there’s more to do! ”
