In his book "Outliers" Malcolm Gladwell popularized the "10,000-Hour Rule," arguing that roughly 10,000 hours of deliberate practice are required to achieve world-class mastery in any field. Why does this matter to us? When we launched the first Babylock more than a decade ago, people loved it. At a certain point we made it slightly bigger and I had to live with it like that, but I never stopped longing for the original tiny version. Thousands of Babylocks, and well over 10,000 hours later, we are proud to introduce you to Micro Babylock. It is very small and very special—our first ever lock in 10K—that we can also make in 20K, a testament to the expertise we have acquired over the years. Everything you can do with a Babylock, you can do with a Micro Babylock, and then some.

When you are making jewelry that has to work—that has to open and close thousands of times, that has to hold weight, that has to move—strength matters. Resilience matters. Alloys become tools, which is why we work across so many metals and materials. So when it came time to decide what metal to use, we looked back to the Victorian period, when mechanical jewelry was mostly made in 9-15k, because of its strength and functionality.

For our version of 10k, we mixed a beautiful alloy somewhere between yellow and rose that is incredibly warm and rich, inspired by a Sovereign (a mechanical coin-holder from the Victorian era) from my personal collection. Because it is our mix, no one will have anything exactly like it. But again, these materials were chosen because they work. Which is really the whole point.

As is the case with all of our jewelry, playing with Micro Babylock is the best way to really get to understand all that it can do. I am quite partial to wearing mine with pearls and fine curb chain, but the team would love to show you all the things you can do with it...virtually, or in person. You can book an appointment, here. As a reminder, while we are an "appointment only" showroom, if you show up, we will always try our best to take care of you.
We hope to see you at our showroom. We hope you love Micro Babylock as much as we do. And most of all, we hope you remember that jewelry's only job is to give joy to people. That is why we make it.
Warmest,
Marla
