How to store your jewelry (and other things you love.)

Jewelry’s only job is to give joy to people. Having a place for it to rest when it's not working is a good thing. Here's how we do it...

1. Consider an Everything Box

Inpsired by Marla's antique sewing kit, our Everything Box, and Baby Everything Box, have a place, for, well, everything...so when it comes to storing jewelry, it's game-changing organizational tool that pulls it's weight.

2. Create a system (or don't).

Charms in the center, rings on the left, earrings on the right? There is no right or wrong way to place your jewelry so long as it makes sense to you. If you saw the inside of Marla's Everything Box, you might have some questions...but the point is, it works for her.

3. Do hang your chains.

Having a lineup of hooks that clip closed will make keeping your chains organized, and untangled, a much easier job. Regardless of where your chains end up living when you're not wearing them, if they can hang, they should.

4. Make space for other things...

An envelope for important papers. Love letters, a warranty card, a handwritten note. There are things you might cherish as much as your jewelry, so keeping them all together makes sense...

What Goes Where:

Chains, Necklaces and Bracelets

On the brass hooks. Always. Piled chains are a cry for help.

Rings

A tray, face-up. Keep inlay and soft stones in their own tray away from harder metals. Or, if you are in a hurry use the handle of the box or a Depository.

Earrings

Bases in one cubby; discs and lozenges in another? There's no perfect science here.

Pearls

Away from anything hard or anything with perfume on it. If you have a strand of your Grandmother's pearls that are collecting dust, send them to us and we will restring your pearl necklace for you and add loops so they can play with everything else in your Everything Box.

Objects that have nothing to do with jewelry

The envelope, a tray, a secret compartment. Wherever. They belong here too.

Marla Aaron has been thinking about where jewelry lives since the very beginning. The Everything Box was born from an antique sewing kit, the idea that jewelry deserves a home as considered as the pieces themselves. With years of designing jewelry meant to be worn, stacked, and loved every day, we know better than anyone that how you store your jewelry changes how often you reach for it.

A few don'ts...

  • Don't pile chains. There are hooks for a reason.
  • Don't let soft stones touch anything. They'll scratch and they'll hold a grudge.
  • Don't store pearls near perfume. They'll eat right through the nacre.

If you have more questions, we have a Care Guide written by jewelry, who knows itself the best. We recommend giving it a read to understand how your jewelry wants to be treated.
