Hello, hi. Thank you for being here. If you’re reading this, you may or may not be aware of our emphatic position that our unique handmade gemstone jewelry is made for everyone, all of the time—regardless of one’s actual birth date. This belief aligns with what people have called our “rebellious” approach to things generally, including jewelry.
We are definitely, as a company, in the unique gemstone jewelry bucket for more reasons than we’ll get into now, but mostly because of our mechanisms. They’re not just unique; if we’re being honest, they’re a bit “unhinged”.
We’re also color obsessed and our collection expands far beyond just colored gemstone jewelry and jewelry with colored stones to things like enamel and Fordite...a material formed from layers of dripping car paint in automotive factories, which gives premium gemstone jewelry with unique patterns a whole new meaning. But when is comes to astrology jewelry or zodiac jewelry, which is what this is supposed to be about, we’ve got questions.
As you might have imagined, Astrology predates “Mercury’s in retrograde,” by a long shot, dating back to around 2,000 BC. Throughout history the Greeks, Romans, and other civilizations picked it up, mixing cosmology with philosophy, medicine, and yes—eventually fashion. By the Renaissance it was everywhere. Kings had court astrologers, and birth charts were serious business. Fast forward a few centuries and specific gems started becoming assigned to zodiac signs, months, and even days of the week. Spoiler: these assignments were mostly made up by jewelers in the 20th century…a là shiny things meets marketing. For us, it’s always been not just about the shiny thing but what the shiny thing can do.
What Makes a Stone “Yours,” Exactly?
Somewhere along the line, someone decided if you’re a Leo, you must wear peridot. If you’re a Scorpio, it’s topaz or bust. And suddenly, the concept of zodiac sign jewelry became the defecto choice for anyone dabbling in self-expression through accessories.… why? Does a stone stop being beautiful—or meaningful—because it wasn’t arbitrarily assigned to your month of birth? Do the rich violets of amethyst not resonate unless you're an Aquarius? We’re not buying it.
The Jewelry You Wear Shouldn’t Be Decided by the Stars…
But it should give you joy. If horoscope jewelry does that for you, then have at it. But if a Ruby or Sapphire is speaking to you and you were born in March, who cares? Let’s not pretend that the universe won’t align unless you're wearing your designated cosmic rock. If you have a tendency to overthink it, we might suggest a Moonlock or Starlock. In silver or gold or stoned with diamonds. We believe that jewelry should be personal, not about planetary obligation.
