I hope this finds you and yours well and immersed in summer— whatever form that takes for you. If you’re me, it's a popsicle slowly dissolving into iced tea or growing something exotic (to Harlem) in my backyard that I can eat. But that’s not why you’re here. You're here, I hope, for the jewelry. And for that, thank you.
You see, the pursuit here has never been static. It's really less about making jewelry—and more about asking the question: What else could be jewelry? How far can we push the boundaries of mechanism and material? This is a question we will never stop asking.
Earlier this season, the New York Times wrote about our showroom as one of 6 Hidden Shops in New York Worth Visiting. They described it as “more like a jeweler’s lab crossed with a toy chest.”, which, frankly, made me feel “seen” but nothing was as exciting as the other businesses listed. They are very cool.
But onto the jewelry we’ve made so far this summer. It’s been a while…we’ve been busy making things and not having the time to formally tell you about them, so let’s get into it:
Rolling Can started as an idea derived from the Egg Project—our 3-piece parure that encased Jedi spinels inside tiny rolling “cans.” It gave me the idea that the cans should become the thing itself? Not a container, but a character. Capped in diamonds, spinning cans. It is so much more than a tennis bracelet–it is never not moving and we made it both bracelet and necklace lengths. The bracelet version comes in two sizes, small and large, both pictured here. I would be very happy to have either one.
It rolls. It is also perfectly sized between our Mini Mega and Heavy Curb chains. The movement is delicious and compelling and we think you're going to love it. This is also available in necklace or bracelet length and each are equally delightful.
While we’re here...let’s talk about...
an All Screen Box in sterling silver.
All six sides. Mesh. Designed to hold a cotton ball soaked in your favorite fragrance. It’s tactile. Personal. Slightly nostalgic. Once you wear it you will feel naked without it. At least that is how I feel about it. It's here in silver...and if you're more of a gold person, we have that, too.
One more thing. Actually, two more things:
1) We’ve been hinting, teasing, and generally dancing around something. It launches Thursday, August 14.The idea? All materials can be precious. You’ll see.
2) If you are in New York City, we are having an event on August 20th at our showroom to preview some new pieces that will be joining our small but growing world of embossed jewelry. There will be drinks and snacks, you can see these new pieces before anyone else (and even pre-order them if you love them), alongside the rest of our collection. We hope that you come. RSVP is required.
You seem to like when I leave you something unhinged so here you go: The Keith McNally autobiography, I Regret Almost Everything, is a joy in its absolute candor. Mr. McNally tells us all like it is but most especially himself. It explains why in a world of “one hit wonder” restaurants that trend hard and die fast, he’s still building and outlasting them all. (On a side note, almost at the same time I saw the Billy Joel documentary and couldn’t help wishing for a chance to sit down and chew the fat with these two legends who I hope know each other.
Are we all obsessed about Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson? Yes we are.
Find your local monkey bars and give it a whirl…seriously. There is real research about grip strength and aging and you want to be on the right side of that..
Hugs,
Marla
